Fish as a relaxation tool

Fish as a relaxation tool

Don’t worry, I’m not suggesting that you take your beloved fish out of their tanks and rest them on your eyelids while you enjoy a facial or a hot bath. Too weird and too cruel! But think about how many offices, doctor’s surgeries and hospital waiting rooms have even just a small fish tank in the corner; have you ever wondered why our finned friends crop up in these unusual places? Well, I reckon it’s because watching fish swimming about is quite relaxing – ideal for people who are heading for a high-stakes meeting or an important medical appointment.

One of my friends who work from home data entry stuff asked if she could get her fish supplies written off as a business expense. I think that could be pushing the letter of the law a little too far, but if you are someone who has to spend a lot of time cooped up at home, either because you work there, or because you’re ill or if you have small children to take care of, then a fish tank in the corner could be just the thing to keep you calm and chilled. And they don’t take as much looking after as a dog or a hamster. Just make sure none of those small children you’re looking after get their curious hands into the tank…

I hadn’t really considered the relaxing qualities of a tank full of fish before, but ever since it first popped into my head I’ve been able to do nothing else but lie back on my sofa, listening to instrumental music and gazing vacantly at my collection, just enjoying the gentle movement and colors. Now I can’t wait to see what they look like after I’ve had a few glasses of wine at the weekend!
